Continued Development & Interests

Web development is the foundation of my skills and the fast pace of change keeps me engaged and learning all the time. I attend local user groups, conferences, read blogs and follow social media to ensure my knowledge remains up to date. Personal development includes trying out new languages and frameworks, learning new standards and how to maintain good quality secure systems.

I am also an advocate of accessibility and a good user experience, with many years of experience designing for different browsers and devices. This is another area where standards are always changing and evolving and I maintain knowledge of current trends as well as being well-read in fundamental design principles.

UEA Logo In 2019, I completed a part-time MSc at the University of East Anglia in Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (now Data Science). My dissertation investigated using JavaScript based NLP & machine learning algorithms to analyse website text content real-time whilst browsing and provide personalised recommendations to a user.

Community & Education

Being a visible role model and encouraging young people into the technology industry is important to me, particularly because representation of women in the industry is so low.

When my situation has allowed I have volunteered to run an after school Code Club at a local primary school. Code Club is a national organisation which provides materials and support for volunteers to teach children how to code.

I am also an active participant in local user groups and was a co-organiser of PHP Cambridge until I moved out of the area.
